Black carbon steel has been a popular metal for cookware in the Far East since the 19th century. With frequent use, the pan acquires natural non-stick properties.
Unlike non-stick pans, it can also be used safely at high temperatures and with metal cooking utensils such as knives, forks or spatulas.
Black Carbon Steel is the ideal choice for those who want to use a traditional cookware utensil in their kitchen that is free of PFOA or PTFE coatings.
Clean: Hand wash only with hot water and mild soap. Do not clean in the dishwasher or soak in water. Scrub gently with a non-abrasive sponge to remove food residue. Before storing, dry completely and lightly grease with a few drops of cooking oil. If rust spots appear, remove them with steel wool or a stiff brush. Rinse, dry and wipe with oil.
Seasoning / before first use: Pour some cooking oil into the pan, place it on the hotplate at a medium heat setting. Spread the oil evenly over the surface of the pan and wait for smoke to appear, then turn off the heat. Once the pan has cooled, wash with water, dry and wipe. The pan is now ready for use.
